International Day for the Elimination of Racism

Dear Colleagues,
Is telling our students "We have come a long way" an answer that you are willing to give when asked "Why am I not treated with respect?" It is not an answer that will make any of us feel safe or proud. Being patient creates a frustration in those who see the wonderful possibilities of a world... of a classroom that is different. A classroom where all are treated with respect and dignity; where as individuals their growth is nurtured.
If we are honest, if we are direct and if we provide opportunities for our youth to help lead the way in making changes, we will create classrooms where there are not only dreams, but also hope. Classrooms full of students who have a vision to see things differently will be what changes our world. Our students are not just our leaders of tomorrow, they are the leaders of today. Give them the challenge.
