When thinking of learning, most people visualize formal classroom instruction. However, the internet and other technological related programs are extremely beneficial in the growth of global knowledge as well. According to statistics, humans in general remember 10% of what they read, 20% of what they hear, and 80% of what they actually do. Thus, it is understood that the internet (a hands-on approach to learning), is an extremely effective tool, in relation to knowledge and education. The general consensus of the "Internet & Education", is that the internet is not about technology, nor is it about receiving information, it is essentially about people working together to gain further global knowledge. The classroom is ultimately where interaction takes place and by providing classrooms with internet access and global learning programs, young people world-wide will be able to work together. Thus, by working simultaneously, students are increasing their global knowledge and universal awareness. The purpose behind the internet and other global oriented programs, is to create an awareness of cross-cultural sensitivity, to become interactive and to work cooperatively with individuals world-wide.
However, students will be unable to receive such technological resources, if teachers are not trained. Educators are presently devoting endless hours and are unable to find the time to experiment and teach themselves new technological programs. Through hands on training and formal instruction, teachers will be able to educate students to use the technology to its maximum capacity, through the knowledge and experience they have gained.
To have internet access and technological resources readily available to students world wide, will create an atmosphere of networking and global knowledge, from which all may benefit.
