Coming this fall is the World's premiere long distance learning event called ASIA CONNECTS/ CHERCHONS L'ASIE. As one of many events scheduled to take place during Canada's Year of Asia Pacific, this event will connect 12 provincial multi-sites from across Canada, along with youth in Asia Pacific countries, during September 28 - October 5. Through communication technology and cyberspace, conference modules such as Asian and Western Values and Cross Cultural Communications will be presented and discussed. People will be able to participate in Asia Connects through accessing information via the world wide web (www.tgmag.ca) and through multi-site radio broadcasting, by participating in on-line web chats and other electronic forums, via point-to-point video conferencing, CUSeeMe, or by being a live and active multi-site participant.
There is no doubt that Global Knowledge '97 is a gateway conference to the world of communication technologies, long distance education and cross cultural communication. Through their virtual conference site, Global Knowledge partners have already tapped into one of the most valuable resources for sharing knowledge: Cyberspace. While World Bank representatives have been the master-minds behind this four day conference, the master-minds behind the coordination of Asia Connects multi-sites are all young people who have been hired through a Canadian government initiative. Human Resources Development Canada have funded the hiring of thirty youth interns to gain valuable work experience through the organization of Asia Connects. The vision, knowledge and passionate work of these young people will reach beyond national boundaries and into the hearts and minds of international on-lookers.
Developed by The Students Commission in collaboration with The Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada, and with the generous support of The Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Human Resources Canada and Bell Learning Solutions, Asia Connects is an excellent example of how business, government and youth partnerships can work successfully.
More information regarding Asia Connects can be obtained from the TG Magazine web site.
