Montréal Protocol is an agreement amongst 24 nations to establish standards for reducing the damage to the ozone layer. Ten years ago the Montréal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer was signed at an international conference hosted by the United Nations Environmental Program. Today, the expression "Montréal Protocol" is used to describe the series of events that mark the signing of this document.September 16, 1997 was the Protocol's 10th anniversary and more than 150 countries, who have adopted the Montréal Protocol standards, gathered in Montréal to mark the occasion.
